Teeth whitening in Kent

The British Dental Association recommends that qualified dental professions should be the only ones allowed to perform a teeth whitening treatment on your teeth. This recommendation comes at a time when the global marketplace is awash with home cosmetic treatments, from some brands which sound familiar and some brands which definitely do not.
How can you be sure what you’re buying? Is a picture of gleaming teeth on the front of some anonymous packaging enough to reassure you that the contents inside do not contain harmful substances, or ineffective substitutes for teeth whiteners that do actually work? Are you sure that all the active ingredients have been declared in the small print and that they’re in the correct quantities. If you’re not sure, you need to see a professional dentist to get your teeth whitened!
Your dentist in Kent knows your teeth. He or she will have a much better idea of the effect whitening gel will have on them, whether or not your teeth and gums need to be made a little healthier before it’s safe for you to use whiteners, as well as the best methods of applying it to help you achieve optimal results and get the best value for money out of your treatment. Plus, wouldn’t you rather have expert guidance when you administer your teeth-whitener? It’s a lot easier than muddling through the instructions yourself, in the hope that you’ve got it right.

What happens during professional teeth whitening treatment in Kent?

Here at the Roseacre Dental Practice in Kent, we use leading tooth whitening brand,Opalescence. Not only does this safe and effective system have the potential to brighten your teeth significantly by several shades, but it is believed to also strengthen your tooth enamel. The active ingredients are potassium nitrate and fluoride. As for tooth sensitivity , which is a common side effect of teeth whitening treatments (even professional ones) your dentist will advise you on how you can best avoid it.
The first stage of receiving your professional prescribed teeth whitening treatment is visiting us here at our Kent practice to have impressions made of your teeth. This will allow us to make the custom mouth trays you’ll need to hold the bleaching gel. Unlike shop-bought kits, we provide trays that will be comfortable to wear, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
Once you have your custom-made trays, our dental experts will guide you through the various steps you’ll need to take to achieve optimal results in obtaining your more attractive, brighter smile. Essentially those steps will involve you applying the Opalescence gel to your custom tray and wearing it overnight for a period of time.
Once your teeth have been brightened using Opalescence, the effects can last for up to 2 years. However, should your teeth start to become discoloured again, you will have the option to take a top-up treatment, which should restore their brightness. To find out more, why not come and have a consultation with our Kent-based dental team. We’d be happy to examine your teeth with a view to checking whether they’re in a healthy enough condition to receive the treatment, as well as answer any questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you.
